How To Remove Pasta Stains From Carpet

Pasta stains can be one of the toughest types of stains to remove. Tomato based sauces can leave bold stains on carpet, cloth and upholstery. However these stains do not have to be challenging. If properly cleaned, they can be removed with ease.

In this example, an entire bowl of ravioli was spilled on a brand new carpet. 

This photo was taken after the stain was attempted to be cleaned with just water. As you can see, the stain was pushed further into the carpet only making the stain worse. 

For our cleaning example, we used Genesis 950 in a Bissell Spotbot. The Spotbot is an easy to use, compact carpet cleaner. It has a compartment where water is added and cleaning solution is added. The compartment has a fill line showing where to fill with water and where to fill with solution. However for our stain, we disregarded the fill lines and used a 50/50 mix of water and Genesis 950. We then allowed the water to preheat. Using the hose attachment, we cleaned the stained area. 

Repeated strokes over the area showed improvement to the carpeting and the stain began to lift.

At a certain point, the stain started showing signs of removal, however the tomato sauce was trapped inside of many of the carpet fibers and the hose began to slow down as far as what it was removing. At this time, we used a spray bottle with a 50/50 mix of Genesis 950 and water and simply sprayed the area. After spraying the area with this mixture, the stain was left alone for about 10 minutes. This allowed the Genesis 950 to work its way into the fibers and break down the stain. Unlike other cleaners, Genesis 950 is a surfactant based cleaner. It is designed to work with water to be absorbed into the stain and actually break the bonds of the stain. After the stain was left to sit, we used the actual machine on the spot. Using a heavy setting, we simply set the SpotBot on top of the stain and let it gently brush the stained area. The SpotBot has settings that allow it to be left on a spot. It will release the mixture of solution and water into the stained area, gently scrub the area, then extract the area.

As you can see, the Genesis 950 broke the stain apart and the SpotBot extracted everything the Genesis 950 was able to remove. 

Once the stain was lifted, we again used the hose attachment with ONLY water in the the compartment to flush and extract any residue left in the carpet. After doing this, we used the attachment hose but dispensed neither water or solution and just extracted any water and moisture from the carpet. The hose attachment also allowed us to even out the carpet. By the time the cleaning was completed, the carpet once again looked like new!

• Locate the stained area (whether it be carpet, upholstery or a rug)
• Clean area free of any loose debris
• Spray stained area with the mixture of Genesis 950 & water (1/3 part 950 to 2/3 parts water)
• Let the mixture soak into the stain for about 2 - 3 minutes
• Use a soft brush or damp sponge to clean the affected area
• Rinse area clean with water

In the event your stain has not completely lifted, repeat the process. For harder setting stains, you may increase the amount of Genesis 950 in the mixture.

Steam Cleaning With Genesis 950

• Mix 1 part Genesis 950 to 7 parts water in the water holding container of the cleaner
• Steam clean the carpet (as you first clean, you will clearly immediate results)
• When you have finished steam cleaning the carpet, empty the water holding container
• Fill water holding area with straight water
• Go over the areas where you have steam cleaned, this time using just the water in the steam cleaner
• When the water in the holding area turns black, empty the container and refill with water
• Continue this process until you have gone over all previously cleaned areas

When you first go over the carpet with the mixture of Genesis 950 and water, you are allowing the mixture to be absorbed by the carpet. When this happens, the mixture breaks the bonds of the stains. This is what makes Genesis 950 so effective. There are no bleach, vinegar or ammonia components in the product. It is not lightening or discoloring your carpet. Instead it is lifting any stain or debris from the carpet fibers. By the time you have completed going over the carpet the first time with the steam cleaner, all debris will be loose. When you repeat the steam cleaning process the second time with straight water, you are now pulling up all the dirt, dust, grime and stains that were previously loosened. TO REMOVE GREASE, OIL & TAR FROM CONCRETE:
Genesis 950 works with water to soak into a stain and break the bonds of the stain. Once a stain's bonds have been broken, the stain can actually be lifted from the surface and removed. This makes cleaning concrete and flooring a quick and easy process. To properly remove grease and oil stains from concrete, mix 1/3 part Genesis 950 to 2/3 parts water. Apply this mixture to the stained concrete or flooring and let it soak into the surface for about 2 minutes. After it has soaked into the surface, use a push broom or scrub brush on the area. This will get the mixture into the stain and allow the bond of the stain to be broken. After scrubbing the area, power wash the surface with water and the stain will be removed. For heavier stains, the process may be repeated or the mixture may be allowed to soak on the stain for a longer duration of time.

TO REMOVE PET STAINS:
1. Clean stained area (furniture, carpet or rug) of any loose debris.
2. In a bucket, mix 1/3 part Genesis 950 to 2/3 parts warm water
3. Using a sponge, absorb the mixture of Genesis 950 and water
4. Squeeze excess mixture out of the sponge
5. With the sponge, wipe down any stained or dirtied area of the furniture, carpet or rug - do not wipe in a scrubbing manner, just gently wipe and let moisture from sponge absorb into the stain
6. Let the area you have wiped absorb the mixture - Genesis 950 is designed to work with water to soak into the stain and break the bonds of the stain, which then lift the stain from the surface. This is what will remove the stain and the smell.
7. After about 2 minutes the stain will be loosened and can be lifted from the surface
8. Empty your bucket and fill with straight water once you have cleaned all the dirty spots on your furniture, carpet or rug
9. Use a sponge with straight water to wipe off the cleaned areas
10. Allow furniture, carpet or rug to dry.

CLEANING MICROFIBER:

Cleaning microfiber can be a never ending challenge. There are products however that will clean your upholstery without leaving rings, or damaging your furniture. Genesis 950 is a great cleaner for microfiber. Using about 1 part Genesis 950 to 7 parts water in a bucket, and then wiping the microfiber with a wet rag will eliminate the stains without leaving marks. Genesis 950 works with water unlike other cleaners because it breaks the bonds of the stains and allows them to lift from the surface of the material. Other cleaners and water do not break this bond. Therefore, the stains are not lifted from the surface when you use anything else. Instead they follow the water and remain in the fabric. Hence the rings left behind.
